Dr. Ir. Deddy Kurniawan Halim, MM., Ph.D (GP)

Dr. Ir. Deddy Kurniawan Halim, MM., Ph.D (GP) a.k.a. DK Halim was born in Jakarta in 1970. Completed Bachelor of Architecture at Tarumanagara University (UNTAR) Jakarta as the best graduate in 1993 with a scholarship during his studies, received a Master of Management in 1995, and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Psychology from De La Salle University with Distinction. In 2022 he also earned his Doctor of Tourism Planning from Udayana University, Bali as a Cum-Laude graduate.

Since 1993 he has been a lecturer at Universitas Tarumanagara (Untar) and taught Architectural Psychology courses due to his interest in the study of the built environment and human behavior. In 2004 he became Deputy Chair of the Regional & City Planning Department, concentrating on Real Estate. In 2008-2012 he moved to Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) teaching courses in Environmental Psychology & Architecture, Ergonomics, Quantitative Methods, and Social Psychology with an emphasis on Urban Psychology, and was Chair of the Psychology Department in 2009. In 2010 he completed postdoctoral research in Green/Environmental psychology at the Universite de Strasbourg with a grant from the Government of France through FMSH-Paris (Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme) & CNRS (Center National de la Recherche Scientifique). From 2013-2016 taught at Pancasila University, and from 2016-1018 in the doctoral program Environmental Education at Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), and Matana University. In 2018 he joined Politeknik Internasional Bali (PIB), was appointed as Chair of the Quality Assurance/LPM (2018-2022), and is currently Chair of the PIB Senate.

As a professional, he joined as the Director of Planning & Design at PT. Jimbaran Hijau, a tourism developer in Bali, is acting as the CSO (Chief Sustainability Officer) to ensure the sustainability of the Jimbaran Hijau development. Since 2016 he has also been appointed as Representative for the Bali region by the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI) which is affiliated with the World Green Building Council (WGBC). In 2018 he has been assigned as a member of the Supervisory Board of the Indonesian Green Plastic Council (KPHI) or also known as the PASTI Movement. He is also a certified GP (Greenship Professional) issued by GBCI since 2016 and a licensed EDGE expert, Excellent Design for Greater Efficiency, green certification program by the International Finance Corporation/IFC – World Bank.

Elected as UNESCO Young Planner 2005 at the 41 st World Congress 2005 in Bilbao, Spain organized by the ISoCaRP (International Society of City & Regional Planners), a United Nations consultative body based in The Hague, Netherlands, and was awarded the 2005 International CARFAX Award. Both of his books entitled PSIKOLOGI ARSITEKTUR: Pengantar Kajian Lintas Disiplin” (2005) and “PSIKOLOGI LINGKUNGAN PERKOTAAN” (2008) were selected as textbooks by the Directorate of Higher Education – Ministry of Education, Culture, Research & Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, he is also one of the contributors for the INTERNATIONAL MANUAL for PLANNING PROFESSION, a handbook for urban planners published by ISoCaRP. His post-doctoral research entitled “HUMAN PERCEPTION OF GREEN PSYCHOLOGY IN PUBLIC SPACE: A Comparative Study between French & Indonesians Living in Cities” was published in Germany. In 2015 (1 st edition) and 2018 (2 nd edition) his book entitled "TEORY N-GREEN: Mempertemukan Psikologi Hijau dan Arsitektur Hijau di Ruang Publik Perkotaan" was selected as the Big-5 BOOK AWARD 2020 for the Architecture category by the National Library of Republic of Indonesia. In early 2023, he published his book entitled “TEORI N-GreenV: Mengukur dan mengembangkan Desa Wisata Hijau yang Berkelanjutan”, or in English, N-GreenV Theory: Measuring and Developing Sustainable Green Tourism Village” as the result of his doctoral research in Tourism Planning.
